For weeks leading up to their highly-anticipated Last Man Standing title match at No Mercy, Orton took psychological warfare to new levels. The Legend Killer punished WWE Champion John Cena's father in and out of the ring, enraging Cena and throwing The Champ off his game.
Then, with just six days before their match, Orton ambushed Cena with a series of RKOs. The Champ was injured during the attack and was diagnosed that evening with a torn right pectoral tendon. He underwent surgery the following day and was told that he would need six months to a year of rehabilitation. Mr. McMahon then ordered Cena to surrender the WWE Championship, and five days later at No Mercy, The Chairman awarded the title to Orton.

The evening proved to be one hell of a roller coaster ride for Orton. The night started off with The Legend Killer being awarded the WWE Championship by Mr. McMahon after former Champ John Cena was forced to surrender the title due to injury. Then Triple H challenged him to a title match, which The Game won. But the night was far from over. Mr. McMahon told Triple H that he had promised the audience a Last Man Standing match and that he was bound to deliver; it would be Orton vs. Triple H for the championship gold. This time, Orton outlasted The Game to capture back the WWE Championship

Randy Orton won a Battle Royal on RAW to earn a shot at Chris Benoit's World Heavyweight Championship. Orton said it was his destiny to become World Heavyweight Champion, and he proved that to be true as he defeated Benoit with his deadly RKO. What's even more impressive is that the Evolution superstar won the match all on his own, as no other members from the faction came down to help him. But when he tried to celebrate the next night on RAW, Triple H and the rest of Evolution turned on the new champion, leaving him a bloody mess in the middle of the ring. Triple H felt that the belt belonged to him and Orton had no right taking it. According to The Game, if anyone in Evolution was going to hold the championship, it would be Triple H, and he went on to prove that at Unforgiven.

Christian thought he had an ace up his sleeve when he invited lifelong friend and former tag team partner Edge to stand in his corner for his No Holds Barred Match with Randy Orton at SummerSlam. However, the retired Rated-R Superstar wasn’t about to let the rule-bending World Heavyweight Champion pick up yet another tainted victory and abandoned Captain Charisma to feel the wrath of The Viper on his own.
A number of punishing implements were used in this incredible clash at Los Angeles’ STAPLES Center – including chairs, tables, trash cans and kendo sticks – but it was Orton’s venomous mid-air RKO onto the steel steps that would prove to be the greatest weapon in either Superstar’s arsenal, helping WWE’s Apex Predator capture his ninth World Championship overall at The Biggest Event of the Summer.

World Tag Team Champions - Edge & Randy Orton
November 13, 2006 - January 29, 2007
On the Nov. 13 RAW, Rated-RKO (Edge & Randy Orton) defeated the legendary team of Ric Flair & "Rowdy" Roddy Piper to become World Tag Team Champions.
Edge took out Piper early in the match with a con-chair-to, leaving Flair to face Rated-RKO by himself. Despite Flair's valiant effort, he was no match for the two young, hungry Superstars; in the end, Edge nailed the "Nature Boy" with a spear to get the winning pinfall and claim tag team gold.
With the win, Edge became an 11-time World Tag Team Champion (along with one reign as WWE Tag Team Champion) while Orton became a tag team champion for the first time.
